Meerkat

Hello. I am a meerkat. My home is in the warm, sunny desert where there is lots of soft sand to dig in. I love it here. I do not live by myself. I live with my big, big family. A family of meerkats is called a 'mob'. We all live together in cozy burrows deep under the ground where we feel safe and warm.

Every day is a busy day for my mob. I have a very important job. I am a lookout. I stand up tall on my tippy-toes and look all around. I watch the big blue sky for large birds, like eagles. If I see one, I make a special chirping sound. This sound tells my family to run and hide so we can all be safe. When I am not being a lookout, my favorite thing to do is dig for food. I use my sharp claws to find yummy, crunchy bugs in the sand for my family and me to eat.

I love my family so much. When our work is done, I love to play with my brothers and sisters in the warm sunshine. We tumble and chase each other in the sand. We all work together as a team to keep each other safe and find food. We are a small but mighty team. We know that by helping each other, we can all stay happy and safe in our sunny desert home. We always look out for one another.
