The Story of Lao Zhu
Hello! My name is Lao Zhu, and I lived a long, long time ago. I loved to sit quietly and watch the world around me. I watched the trees sway in the wind, the rivers flow down the mountains, and the stars twinkle in the night sky. I learned that nature has a special, gentle way of doing things, and I wanted to be just like that.
My biggest idea was to be like water. Think about a little stream—it doesn't push or rush. It just flows around rocks and keeps going. I believed people could be happy if they were gentle and calm, just like the stream. Instead of fighting, we can be kind. Instead of worrying, we can be peaceful. This way of living is called the Tao, which means 'the Way'.
One day, I decided it was time for a new adventure. I climbed on the back of my friendly water buffalo to travel far away. Before I left, a kind guard at the gate asked me, 'Please, will you write down your wonderful ideas for us?'. So, I did! I wrote all my thoughts about being kind and living in harmony with nature in a little book called the Tao Te Ching.
I lived a very long life, filled with quiet thinking. Even though I am not here anymore, my little book is still here for you. People all over the world still read my words today to help them feel calm, be kind to others, and remember to be gentle like a flowing river.
