A Story of an Axolotl
Hello, I am an axolotl. I am a special kind of salamander, and people say it looks like I am always smiling. I live in the cool, clear water of a big lake called Lake Xochimilco in Mexico City. My home is very beautiful, with lots of green plants growing all around. I love to swim through the water and play hide-and-seek among the leaves. My skin is very soft, and I have funny, feathery gills on my head. They look like a fluffy crown, and they wave back and forth as I glide through the water. It is very peaceful in my underwater world, and I love my home.
I have a very special secret. It is my superpower. If I ever get a little bump on my leg or my tail, I do not have to worry. I can grow a brand new one, all by myself. It is like magic, but it is real. This special trick helps me stay healthy and strong so I can keep swimming and exploring my home. When I get hungry, I look for yummy things to eat for dinner. I love to munch on wiggly worms and tiny fish that swim by. I have to be quick to catch them. Eating my dinner helps me keep my energy up for more adventures in the water.
Even though I am a small creature, I am a very important part of my lake home. I am unique because I stay a 'kid' my whole life. That is why I always keep my feathery gills and live in the water. I help keep my home clean and balanced, which is a very big job. It is wonderful to be a smiling, swimming axolotl. I love helping to take care of my special corner of the world, deep under the water.
