The Fox with the Magic Coat

Hello. I am an Arctic Fox, and I live in the cold, snowy north. I have a very special coat that helps me stay warm. My favorite thing about my coat is that it changes colors, just like magic. When the world is covered in a white blanket of snow during winter, my fur turns fluffy and white, too. This helps me hide so I look just like a little snowball. When the warm sun comes out for summer, my coat changes again. It turns brown and gray to match the rocks and plants that pop out from the melted snow. It helps me blend in all year long.

Do you want to know how I find my dinner? I play a fun game called 'listening for lunch.' My ears are super good at hearing. I stand very, very still in the snow and listen for tiny sounds. I can hear little animals, like lemmings, moving around under my paws. Once I hear a snack, I get ready to play. I bend my legs, and boing. I leap high up into the air and then dive right down into the soft snow to catch it. It is the best way to find food and have fun at the same time.

I have a very important job in my Arctic home. I am a great helper. Besides hunting for my own food, I help keep our home neat and tidy. Sometimes, bigger animals like polar bears leave behind some of their food. I help clean up by eating the leftovers so nothing goes to waste. By being a little helper, I make sure my beautiful, snowy home stays healthy for all my animal friends. It feels good to take care of the place where I live.
