John Quincy Adams
Hello! My name is John Quincy Adams. I want to tell you my story. When I was a little boy, a long, long time ago, my country, America, was brand new! My father, John Adams, was a very important helper. He was so important that he became the president! I was so proud of him. I loved my family very much. My favorite thing to do was read books. I would read and read and read, learning everything I could. Sometimes, I even got to sail on big, tall ships across the wide, blue ocean. We would visit other countries, and I would learn how they did things. It was a big adventure!
When I grew up, I wanted to be a big helper for America, just like my dad. I remembered all the things I learned in my books and on my travels. I went to faraway lands and made new friends for our country. Making friends is very important! Then, one day, in the year 1825, something amazing happened. The people of America chose me to be their leader! I became the sixth president. It was a very big job, and I wanted to do my best. I wanted to build new roads so people could visit each other. I wanted to build canals so boats could travel easily. And I had a special dream to build a house with a giant telescope, so we could all look at the beautiful stars in the night sky.
Even after I was president, I didn't stop working. I wanted to keep helping. The most important thing to me was making sure our country was fair for everyone. I believed with all my heart that every single person should be free and happy. So, I used my big, strong voice to speak up for people who couldn't speak for themselves. I never stopped learning, and I never stopped trying to help. After a long, happy life of helping, I grew very old and then I died. But I hope you remember that you can be a helper, too! Just by being kind, you can make the world a better place.
