In a sparkling castle, nestled among the clouds, lived Princess Luma. Luma had swirly pink hair that bounced as she danced and a heart as big as the castle itself. But most special of all, Luma could talk to butterflies! One sunny morning, a tiny, shimmering butterfly fluttered into her room, carrying a scroll. "For Princess Luma," it sang in a tiny, tinkling voice. "You are invited to the Grand Ball at the Whispering Woods!"
Luma clapped her hands with glee. A ball! How wonderful! She loved music, and dancing. But before she could even twirl, she knew there was much to do. First, she needed to convince the castle's Head Chef, a grumpy fellow who only liked chicken and rice, to make her a special treat for the journey. "Chef," she called, "could you possibly make me a pizza with no sauce?" The Chef scowled. "Pizza with no sauce? That's not proper food!" But Luma, ever kind, gave him a gentle smile. "Please, Chef? It's my favorite!" Sadly, the Chef refused.
She sighed, "Never mind." But Luma was not one to be discouraged. She thought of her favorite cousins, Duke and Blue, whom she loved like her family. Luckily, Duke and Blue were at the castle for a visit, and they loved helping out! They knew Luma’s favorite music and planned to bring it with them to the ball.
"I'll make sure we have the best music," said Duke, grinning. “And I'll pick out the most amazing dresses!” Blue chimed in, clapping. Luma giggled. She had a beautiful tiara made from a fallen star. Her hair, naturally pink, sometimes changed color with her mood. Today, it was the happiest pink. Luma skipped to her wish-flower garden. In the garden, wishes bloomed into beautiful flowers. "I wish..." she whispered, "I wish for a wonderful ball!" And with a flutter, the wish-flowers danced.
As the sun began to set, Luma, Duke, and Blue set off for the Whispering Woods. The forest shimmered with a thousand tiny lights. When they arrived at the ball, it was even more magical than they had imagined. Everyone was dressed in the most fantastical costumes. Lucas, a young boy who was at the party, was building a castle, which made him so excited. He loved playing outside and building things! There were unicorns playing musical instruments, puppies dressed as little dancers, and butterflies with tiny, jeweled wings.
Princess Luma’s tiara sparkled as she danced with Duke and Blue, but suddenly, the sparkle began to fade! "Oh dear," she said, touching her head. "My tiara! It’s losing its sparkle!" The music was fading too. Luma, Duke, and Blue knew something was wrong. They searched high and low, past the dancing bears and singing flowers. They found a tiger sitting sadly in the corner. The tiger was a friend of Princess Luma’s and loved to dance, but the music wasn’t playing his favorite tune. The tiger looked upset; his favorite music wasn't on. “What’s wrong?” she asked gently. "The music is too quiet, and it's not the right song!" The tiger replied in a low growl.
Following the faint sound of a grumpy huff, Luma, Duke, and Blue discovered the source of the problem. High up in a shadowy tree, sat a grumpy old owl. "Hoo... too much noise! The music must stop!" he hooted. He was using his powerful wings to block the music’s sound. "But everyone is having so much fun!" Luma said. "The music brings joy to everyone, including the tiger. Can't you see?" The owl huffed. "I don't like noise!" Luma realized that the owl was lonely and maybe didn't understand the joy of the ball. “We have to help the owl understand,” she said to Duke and Blue. "It’s not always easy, but we can try!"
Luma, Duke, and Blue, even a bit nervous, approached the owl. "Hello, Mr. Owl," Luma said kindly. "Why don't you like the music?" The owl grumbled something about it being too loud. "But the music makes us happy!" Luma explained, "Especially the tiger over there!" She pointed to the tiger, who seemed to perk up a little. "If the music changes to his favorite song, everyone, including the tiger, would be happy!" Duke smiled.
Luma suggested that they let the tiger pick his favorite song. The owl was hesitant, but Duke and Blue helped the tiger and owl. Slowly, the owl began to tap his feet. The music changed, the tiger started dancing and the tiara sparkled again! The music swelled through the Whispering Woods. The tiger began to smile. The owl even let out a small hoot that sounded almost like a laugh. Duke and Blue and Luma smiled. Princess Luma, Duke, and Blue knew they could make a difference. The owl started enjoying himself. The tiger was now happy, and the music was in harmony with the night.
Back at the castle, Princess Luma planted more wish-flowers. One, she hoped, would help the Head Chef understand the joy of pizza with no sauce, just like the ones Sitara likes. As she drifted off to sleep, she realized that even a grumpy chef or a grumpy owl could find happiness with a little kindness and a lot of friends.
